Faith Formation - January 24
All children participating in our kindergarten faith formation, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, will need to be dropped off in Room 5 by their parents after getting their temperature taken at the entrance door (and don’t forget your mask). We will begin shortly after the conclusion of 9:30am Mass and pick up will be at 12 Noon in Room 5.
If you were not able to join us for the in person family catechesis lesson on Unit 3, Jesus Christ, please pick up your family packet in the outdoor white wooden box by the office doors. Then watch the recorded session shared via email from Mrs. Hocking.
All families have the rest of the month to work on Chapters 7-9 at home. Look for emails from your catechist sharing parent and student resources to use on FlipGrid to help with the lessons.
Sacramental Preparation classes will begin February 21 for 2nd graders and their parents.
Children’s Faith Formation Nativity Poster Activity
Our children’s faith formation students were asked to create a Nativity sticker scene on a poster at home in December. The activity included adding a star in the sky above the stable each time they did something kind and loving for someone else during Advent. Then on Christmas morning they added baby Jesus to the stable to complete the scene.
They did a great job showing love to others and making the world a brighter place for when Jesus – the Light of the World – comes again!

Called to Love is the theme for our 2020-2021 Assumption BVM Faith Formation.
Our mission is to accompany your family to an encounter with Christ through faith formation. This year our encounter will focus on how we are all “Called to Love”- God and our neighbors. We are excited to help your family put that love into action within your homes, community and world.
This year, all faith formation levels will be structured in a “hybrid” model using different formats, depending on grade level. We will meet in person, when possible, conduct virtual sessions and provide packets for in home use. We will be updating you with more details as we get closer to our faith formation kickoff on September 27th. Save the date for this fun family event where we begin to answer our “Call to Love”.
As registered members of the parish, your child(ren) are called to be a part of our Children’s Faith Formation and Youth Ministry. Before we begin this year, we need ALL families to update their family information and medical treatment release forms. These two documents can be downloaded and fill out electronically in Adobe Reader. Please return to our parish office professional, Sharon Worthington (firstname.lastname@example.org), by Wednesday, September 16. If you have any problems or questions, please call the office at 631-4447.
It gives us great comfort that the Holy Spirit is guiding our planning! We ask for your prayers as the year enfolds. Yours in Christ, Kathy Russell, Director of Youth Ministry (6-12th grade) email@example.com

trust and Safety
To foster and maintain an atmosphere of trust and safety in its ministry to minors, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish follows the Standards of Ministerial Behavior for Those Working with Children and Young People, established by the Diocese of Saginaw. We will set appropriate boundaries to assure a safe place for our children and young people in all church ministries and programs. For further information and full documentations of these Standards of Behavior, please visit the Diocese of Saginaw website.
Children's Faith Formation Program
Our children’s faith formation program supports spiritual growth for pre-school, kindergarten, and grades 1-5.
Children in these grades meet on Sunday morning after Mass at 10:45 am until noon.
Our preschool catechist utilizes a lectionary-based curriculum that allows the Sunday readings to come alive in an exciting, interactive way for our preschoolers.
Kindergarteners experience God through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Please see a description of this program in the next section below.
Our 1st grade through 5th grade curriculum is Christ Our Life series by Loyola Press. This program was developed according to the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: what Catholics believe, how we worship, how we live and how we pray. Using an integrated approach, the essentials of Catholic teaching are presented to the children in a way that helps them to learn about and deepen their faith.
Several times a year we also come together with our families and parish community for special celebrations and service projects.
Please email your questions to Children’s Formation Coordinator, Sarah Hocking, or call at 989-631-4447.

the catechisis of the good shepherd
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Used at the kindergarten level. This is a program of faith formation that presents the most important realities of the catholic faith to the youngest members of the church. This is achieved by: 1) a prepared environment (atrium) and 2) a trained catechist whose sources are scripture and liturgy.
These presentations are chosen to convey the essentials of the faith in a manner appropriate to the child’s development. The child is then invited to internalize and respond to the presentation by working with the materials themselves. Photos of the Atrium.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW)
TAKES PLACE DURING THE SUNDAY 9:30 AM MASS
Four, five, six (and seven year olds who have not made their First Eucharist) are invited to attend CLOW during Sunday Mass.
Children are dismissed from Mass after the Introductory Rite where they will hear and reflect on the Sunday readings at their age level, have a simple interactive Profession of Faith and pray for the needs of our world, the church and the community.
They return to the larger assembly at the preparation of the gifts.
In 2019-2020, we will meet every Sunday starting September 22, 2019 until May 31, 2020 except Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and Easter Sunday. This program is free of charge and no pre-registration is required.
